The 3rd Labor Service Congress was held at Bohol Tropic Hotel on March 27 & 28, 2017. The theme for this Congress was “Labor Service Cooperatives: The Best Alternative in Protecting the Workers” ULSCC invited speaker from India through Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS). The invited speaker was Prof. Saji Gopinath, the mentor of ULCCS and Dean of Indian Institute of Management. He showed how ULCCS was established by 14 laborers in 1925 and grew into a respected and sought-after construction cooperative, building roads and bridges for the government. Also invited were government regulators in DOLE, BIR, and a resource person from Senate to dialogue with cooperatives on legal compliance. All discussions were in the context of protecting the workers, their rights, and improving their lives. The other speakers were Mr. Jose Allan Bartolo (Public Relations Consultant), Dir. Agrifino Torres (ULSCC Vice-Chairman), Undersecretary Benjo Benavides (DOLE), Mr. Laurence Acierto (Committee Secretary of Senate Committee on Labor), and Mr. Roy Miclat (President of Cooperative Insurance System of the Philippines).
